Who I am as a Therapist
Hi, I’m D. If you have made it here, my guess is that you have tried many of the seemingly obvious solutions to your problems. In my experience, the meaning of what we’re going through is rarely straightforward, and I come prepared to support you as we make sense of what is happening in your life and carve a new path that honors your uniqueness and complexity. Therapy with me is relational and trauma-informed, with plenty of opportunities to slow down and listen deeply to what is said–and unsaid–in the room. I treasure the playful and creative aspects of psychotherapy and I strive to create an atmosphere of sincerity and presence to accompany you as you try new things. I enjoy working with children, adults, and families as they navigate the impacts of depression, trauma, substance misuse, conflict, and other self-defeating behaviors and patterns.
I have experience in intensive outpatient care, substance use treatment, and community mental health. In my most recent role before Family Ties, I worked in a hospital setting providing outpatient and inpatient care to a diverse community with a strong Caribbean and Latine presence. I have worked extensively with queer and trans folks, and I approach all individuals with a rich understanding of how gender and sexuality can intersect with other aspects of our wellbeing. I aim to listen deeply for the ways that culture, identity, and power and oppression influence your own mental health and shape the space that we occupy together in the room.
“The future enters into us, in order to transform itself in us, long before it happens.” —Rainer Maria Rilke
