Who I am as a Therapist

This life journey can be overwhelming, confusing and heartbreaking at times. As a result, we can find ourselves feeling lost and/or alone and using methods of coping that are negatively impacting us and those we care about.  I strongly believe we each have the ability to create positive change in our lives. We can do this through better understanding ourselves and learning new ways of being that positively impact what we feel and experience. We often need some support and new tools to successfully increase our understanding of ourselves. My therapeutic style is pragmatic, open-minded, with a positive regard toward others. As your therapist, I will provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to deeply reflect on and discuss your challenges. I will gently support you through a process of noticing your thought patterns, feelings and behaviors that are causing pain and stress in your life or relationships. Together we will work to create new paths of understanding that are based on a foundation of compassionate understanding and empathy for ourselves and others. If we as humans want more loving kindness and peace in our lives, we must work to cultivate a mindset and lifestyle that nurtures those values.

I received my Masters of Social Work degree from Humboldt State University. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon. I am a generalist with a diverse professional background. I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, Africa and I have worked in various areas of service such as; individuals with disabilities, seniors citizens, child abuse and domestic violence prevention, homelessness and more recently in end of life care with hospice and palliative care. These experiences have enlightened my understanding of our humanity and fostered a deep compassion for the struggles we all face.

As a therapist I am informed by a humanistic and strengths based perspective. In my practice I use mindfulness, cognitive and dialectical behavior therapies, emotionally-focused therapy, trauma informed therapy and non-violent communication. I have experience working with diverse populations of all ages, couples and individuals in the areas of end of life, grief and loss, trauma and abuse, chronic and life limiting illness, relationship difficulty and personal development.

Who am I when I’m not being a therapist

I was born and raised in California. I have many fond memories of summers spent camping, fishing and waterskiing with friends and family. I’m married and I try to keep up with our two active boys.  When I get the chance I love to do a workout at the gym and meditate to deeply relax. Being with my family and friends is my happy place. Over the years I’ve developed my skills as a cook. I enjoy sharing a beautiful meal with friends and family as we laugh and reconnect. My family and I enjoy traveling and spending time in the great outdoors. During the summer we often head to the coast or rivers and lakes for some fun in the sun!
