Who I am as a Therapist

When life is challenging, we all need support, understanding, respect, and compassion. As humans, we benefit greatly by connecting with a support system so we understand we are not alone on this journey. Psychotherapy is our chance to connect to that support in a safe environment where we can explore, learn and grow.

The journey of life includes suffering, as well as, hope and joy. We are not always prepared to cope with the challenges that confront us. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), my role is to walk the path with you and begin to develop the skills needed to move through the unexpected challenges of life.

In a psychotherapy session with me, you can expect to be treated with non-judgmental compassion, warmth, and understanding. Deep listening allows me to understand where you have come from, so we can begin to tap into your innate power to heal, change, and progress toward your goals.

You can expect to develop skills, practices, and techniques that will help for a lifetime. Each session will serve to process old patterns/experiences and develop new, more effective ways to cope with life. We collaborate to develop a care plan that addresses specific symptoms and issues, then tailor specific tools and interventions that empower you to create change in your life.

I have 24 years of experience working with diverse populations young and old. I have worked with people to help them move through substance abuse, mental health issues, and coping with loss/grief. For the last 15 years, I have been working in hospice care, helping families transition through this life stage and related grief experience.

While getting my master’s degree in social work, I was fortunate to have a great mentor who taught me about EMDR and hypnotherapy. EMDR is a specialized form of psychotherapy that uses eye movements to reprocess and reintegrate traumatic experiences. When we reprocess our trauma we can change how it affects our mind, body, emotions, and behavior. This is an elegant and powerful form of healing that I incorporate into my practice.

I also studied Transpersonal Hypnotherapy which helps us heal by focusing on mindfulness, meditation, breathing, and relaxation. Hypnotherapy can be a very effective tool in creating desired behavior change, regulating our emotions, and finding the root causes of our behavior.

Thank you for reading and taking steps to care for yourself!

“We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth.”

-Virginia Satir
