Meredith Cushing, LPC

I am thankful to have experienced many years of transformation, growth and joy in my work with people!  I believe that therapy is a deeply individual process, therefore my work is based on the unique qualities, needs and concerns that make my clients who they are. While each individual’s process is unique, I see a common thread that unites all of us: we all grow and thrive in connection with one another. I bring a warm and grounded presence to my counseling practice, with a client-centered and attachment-focused orientation. I am honored to support my clients through places of transition in their lives.  I enjoy helping my clients access deep self-awareness as they navigate joys, sorrows, frustrations, traumas and changes.

I draw upon elements of interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness, and psychodynamic theory, using a variety of therapeutic techniques in my work with individuals and families. My practice has a particular focus on relational health, including issues arising in parenting, intimacy and partnership.  My work with couples is grounded in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy as well as in the principles of the Gottman method. With families, I utilize Child-Centered Play Therapy and Collaborative Problem-Solving approaches. I am bilingual English/Spanish. And I work to create affirming space for LGBTQIA+ clients.

I have worked with clients in a diversity of settings, with many years of combined experience in private practice, school-based mental health, mobile crisis response, and substance abuse treatment. I have pursued advanced training in trauma-informed care, pre- and postpartum mental health, and mindfulness work.

As a lifelong Oregonian, I’m passionate about exploring the wild spaces of our beautiful state. I love rafting, paddling, camping and hiking, and I can frequently be found pursuing one of these activities (or at least planning one!) with my partner, our kids, or one of my inspiring Moms. I find joy and calm in playing guitar and piano; I engage in this creative meditation whenever possible. Gardening, cooking, books, and dog walks are other elements of balance for me.
