Caroline Paddock LCSW

Who I am as a therapist

Our lives are complex and sometimes chaotic in today’s fast paced and highly technological world. Life can be challenging, stressful, intense, overwhelming, and at times lonely. Therapy is an opportunity for self-care – for you to take a moment to slow down, look at your life and challenges differently, and find new solutions to old and painful problems. In our work together, you will have the opportunity to develop new perspectives. You will have support for identifying your own innate strengths and help uncovering triggers that derail your good intentions. We will build on your strengths and find new tools to address your struggles. I will provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental relationship based on mutual respect, guided by your challenges and our respective experiences. I will listen carefully to your needs and meet you where you are. I will speak the truth, when called for, and always with kindness. I will provide gentle reflections, practical strategies, and information and education based on recent research.

I had several careers before becoming a therapist five years ago, including being a parent. I am passionate about the work that I do now and my personal experiences and journey have shaped my therapeutic style. I have experience and skills with special needs children and their families that allow me to focus on the unique needs and abilities of the child and the strengths of the family. People’s minds and bodies are deeply connected and I will address both in our work together. As a therapist I am committed to walking with you to the next destination on the path to growth.

My work experience and education

I have five years of clinical experience working with children, adults, couples and families. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from Hunter College in New York City and I have a background in dance. I received my Master of Social Work at Portland State University and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon. I have additional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a highly effective therapy for the treatment of all kinds of trauma. You can read more about EMDR by clicking here.

Who am I when I am not being a therapist

Although I grew up in California, my family is originally from the Northwest. I left California as a young adult and traveled and lived in many places around the world before returning to the Northwest and settling in Portland. When I am not being a therapist, my husband and I are busy raising our three teenage boys and caring for our two large dogs. As a family, we enjoy traveling, spending time in nature, watching movies, and discussing and debating current events.
