Who I am as a Therapist

As a therapist, I work alongside you to help you better understand yourself, learn new coping strategies, and live a life more congruent with your worldview and values. This often results in conversations about cultural upbringing and identity. Without acknowledgement of our past (personal, community, and country’s) and the systems that oppress or lift us up, we cannot fully access growth or wellbeing. I highly value your individual needs and unique background and work to provide an environment that feels understanding, supportive, and tailored to your needs.

I work relationally, relying on the therapeutic connection to initiate change. Humor is very important in my work, and I value the genuine connection I forge with you. I have experience working with people from different racial, cultural, sexual, and gender identities, as well diverse relationship configurations. I believe that our own unique backgrounds and experiences are important to understand and celebrate. This is my favorite part of my work.

In regards to therapeutic modalities, I often rely on cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, and trauma-informed perspectives, while also integrating theories and evidence-based interventions from other modalities as necessary.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, I am a generalist by trade and education, and have experience working with individuals across the lifespan. Through my career, I have developed particular interest and areas of specialty in working with college-age individuals and young adults, interpersonal violence survivors, and people working to better their relationships. However, I welcome individuals with varied concerns or goals into my practice. One of the most important things is that you think I will be a good fit for your needs and personality; liking your therapist is a bare minimum requirement.
