To learn how we can help you

Allison Jones, LPC

Who I am as a therapist

My role as a therapist is a privilege that starts with you taking a chance on trusting me. It’s a privilege to have you share your life with me, whether it’s the messy parts, the joys, or everything in between. My commitment to those I work with is to offer support without condition, be in your corner, and provide honesty even when it’s tough.

No matter a person’s age, they enter the therapy space with strengths and resources that have carried them through previous challenges. We use these as the foundation of our work together, knowing that each of these things has potential to be instrumental in health. That foundation might consist of personal characteristics and successes, hobbies and interests, chosen and/or given family, or support in their community. Once that foundation is set, we can use it as a tool to connect with their power to take on aspects of life that are hindering health.

I recognize that despite connection with personal power, those things that hinder health can be things both in and out of your control. We can control how we face our emotional responses, but we may not be able to control injustices in life and in the society around us. I am here to sit with these hard truths, and explore their impact so that I can be your ally in facing them. I am not thrown off by the potential chaos of this work, offering flexibility, patience, and creative thinking to connect with you through the challenges.

My grounding as a therapist is found in Play Therapy and Experiential Based Approaches, that allow for experiencing emotion without being overwhelmed. I also pull from Play therapy, Child-Directed therapy, Attachment therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. If you feel like this may be a good fit for you, your children’s, or your family’s needs, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

My Education and Experience

I have six years of clinical experience working with children, individuals, and families. I graduated with a B.A. in Child Development & Family Relations from University of Idaho, 2006. I hold a Masters in Counseling from Multnomah University, 2014. I completed all major coursework necessary for completion of my degree and licensure, including ethics in counseling, cultural and spiritual diversity, human growth and development with emphasis on children and adolescents, group dynamics, and career development.

I have additional training in trauma informed care, play therapy, and experiential based therapy. These have included Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Play Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. I have also received training in cultural competency including Talking About Race and Racism: A Developmental and Integrative Approach.

Who am I when I am not being a therapist

I enjoy spending time with family and friends while getting outside, cooking, and playing board games. I love to travel, and often find my partner and I researching places to visit or dreaming of returning to our favorite spots. I spend time volunteering with those who are in need of food support, and making coffee at my church. I feel refreshed after trips to the mountains and the beach, and also after a mini binge with my favorite television show.
