Brook Jenkins, LPC

brook-jenkins-lpc-family-ties-counseling-centerIn my work as a therapist, I strive to bring greater happiness, life satisfaction, and peace of mind to my clients. I explore the various threads in the fabric of the whole person and/or the whole relationship. These include life experiences, family and cultural background, and core beliefs.

I take a supportive approach and serve as an ally with you against the difficulties in your life.  Emotions that may arise during our work together are welcomed, since even painful feelings have a healthy core. I take what you think and feel very seriously, but for me, laughter is a natural and useful part of therapy.

I draw from several modalities: including attachment theory, family systems theory, and mindfulness approaches such as physical focusing. I am currently teaching counseling at Portland State University as an adjunct faculty.

After growing up outside Detroit, I went to college at Michigan State University and Antioch University.  Prior to living in Portland for the last few years, I practiced psychotherapy and taught graduate and undergraduate college students in Durango and Santa Fe.

My favorite activities include hearing live music with friends, and spending time with my grown son.  My nonfiction reading is generally science or history, and I like novels or films set in other cultures and times.  I’m in heaven when I have an architecture/design magazine in my hand or there’s an infant in the room.
